Nutrition is a fundamental requirement of the body to produce energy and other substances to support the activities of life. To meet the human nutritional needs, we consume food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sometimes we mix together the meals with additional food such as cakes, fruits, vegetables, or other kinds of food. In reality, many people think that the food is consumed only to overcome hunger and to survive living. More people are eating without caring for correct or healthy diets.

Food that meets the needs of the body metabolism and are supposed to support the human activities are healthy foods with balanced diets. We never realized that incorrect diet causes considerable bad effects. Eating food with high calorie level without balancing it with vegetables and fresh fruit will cause imbalance metabolism to our body. Every bit of extra calories in our body will be stored as fat deposits.

The appearance of excess calories will cause drowsiness after meals. For an employee, those conditions will decrease productivity. They need 15 minutes to 1 hour to recover from drowsiness and to be fresh again.Try to think, feel and imagine what we will see every time we walk into the office after lunch. The time wasted declines productivity which is equivalent to a great loss.

Changing patterns of eating for a healthy life is a very good appropriate first step to each employee as well as yourself for a healthy lifestyle. The body uses the food that we eat for the process of body cell metabolism. The result of metabolism is metabolites used in the formation of new cells. New cells that are formed are normal cells, fat cells and possibly the formation of abnormal cells. What cells are formed depend on the food we eat.

Follow a healthy lifestyle by adopting healthy eating patterns with a balanced diet
Combine 60-70% of fruits with 30-40% of protein and carbohydrates.
Reduce the portion of carbohydrates and replace them with vegetables and fruits.
Eat fruits and vegetables at the beginning of a meal.
Exercise 15-20 minutes every day (a walk would be fine).
Drink 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day.
In order for you to have a healthy body, as well as a sexy and athletic posture, you need to do aerobic exercises.

With a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy and balanced diet, our body will be fresher, will have optimum stamina, and will be healthy, slim and sexy, accompanied by increased productivity. All this is equivalent to a healthy lifestyle and happiness.

It is the goal of each person to have a fit and healthy body. This enables us to have a shot at having a long, happy life. A healthy body enables us to do a lot of things that require physical strength and endurance. And it doesn’t hurt that it makes us look good too.

There are people who are relatively healthy but do not exactly have lean, muscular bodies. Most of them are what we call hard gainers. In most cases hard gainers are people who are naturally slim. They have petite bone structures and they don’t have a wide frame to begin with. In short they are genetically skinny, which is most probably a physical characteristic that runs in the family. This is not bad news though. In most instances it is the hard gainers with lean abs and firm muscles that look best.

If you are a hard gainer a diet is even more important. In fact you need to gain weight before you can shape your body. Have a protein-rich diet and take healthy carbs for energy. Stay away from useless carbohydrates like cakes, cookies and white bread. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits. They provide the necessary vitamins and nutrients, as well as antioxidants which are very important in keeping one’s body healthy.

Next is to make use of the raw materials your diet provides you with and work them into your muscles. Visit the gym a couple of times a week for around one and a half to two hours. Don’t forget to bring along lots of water and a healthy snack bar to keep you on your feet.

The usual mistake of hard gainers though is that they immediately want to go through bodybuilding workouts that beefed up professional bodybuilders do. You want to develop and strengthen your muscles, not overwork and stress them out. The results will not immediately be noticeable so don’t easily give up.
The following muscle exercises are commonly recommended for hard gainers:

1. Weight lifting – this is recommended because it allows you to start on smaller weights, even an empty bar. You can start increasing your weights as your diet and other exercises slowly pack up your muscles. It will also make you feel good each time your weights go up a level.

2. Push ups – this is to increase the muscle mass in the arms and strengthen them. If you are able to do proper push ups it means your arms are not just looking good they are also getting stronger. You also get to work out your upper back muscles.

3. Crunches – increase the level of intensity as you increase muscle mass in order to have firm, packed abs. Later include bringing up your knees alternately as you crunch. And when even this is already too easy you can add weights or restraining garter belts on your legs so your thigh muscles will be exercised as well.

Notice that these are simple exercises and can be done at home, so they are ideal for hard gainers who are not used to working out in the gym.

We all know how important the work environment is in terms of productivity, creativity, and job satisfaction. All businesses strive, or should strive to achieve a healthy work environment for their employees. But what constitutes a healthy work environment? Is it literal health, as in good ventilation, natural lighting and lots of plants? Is it psychological health, as in job security and respect for employee values? Or is it supplying the means to get healthy, as in an onsite gym and a cafeteria with no fried foods?

Or is it all of the above?

You may have heard of “sick building syndrome”, which is when employees experience a variety of ailments (symptoms resemble flu) at work, which generally ease when they go home. Poor ventilation is the main culprit, combined with chemical agents (bouquets of perfumes and deodorants, and cleaning agents), emissions from electrical appliances, and biological agents (mould growing in the air conditioning system).

Sick buildings can be treated. I will now alienate all smokers. Smoking should be banned from the building. Separate smoking rooms are all good and well, if the extractor fan is in good working order. But what is smoke other than burnt air? And what does air do best? It wafts of course.

Smoke does not come across a keyhole or crack in the door and stop. It wafts on, meandering through the building, into eyes and up assorted nostrils until finally it does settle, indiscriminately, in everyone’s lungs. Designating a smoking area outside is a viable alternative, provided it’s not right by the door, where air currents are ideal for wafting.

Optimise air flow by removing as many obstacles as possible. That means that partitions or cubicle should be raised slightly off the floor and occasionally rearranged to shift air flow. Keep ventilation systems in optimal working order, service them regularly and keep the filters clean.

Go green, literally, and invest in plants. Scientists at NASA have found that some plants (Bamboo Palm, Spider Plants) actually absorb harmful gases and chemicals. Placing a pot plant near your computer will protect your from its nasty emissions, it will also soothe your eyes when you look away from your screen (which you should do every 20 minutes), as well as liven up the office.

One of the most important indications of a psychologically healthy environment is laughter. Colleagues who laugh together work well together. Laughter is a sign of comfort within the work environment and should be encouraged. Occurrences of insane laughter in a corner, however, should be investigated, and the poor soul provided with help.

Open-door policies that encourage free sharing of ideas are an important element in employee health. Employees who are listened to feel valued, they also feel that they can make a tangible difference to the business, which enhances job satisfaction.

A growing trend these days is for companies to provide facilities for employees to optimise their physical health. Often this means that they install a gym on the premises for employees to work out before or after work, or even during lunch. An alternative for companies too small to install an entire gym is to conduct meetings on the move. Instead of sitting around a table in a stale room to discuss ideas in a stale, take the meeting for a walk in the (comparatively) fresh outdoors. A different physical point of view can stimulate metaphysical ones, not to mention the cardio benefit of walking and talking.

Just because competition is savage doesn’t mean your environment has to be. A few simple measures can ensure the health and happiness of your employees and a happy employee is a productive one.

For once, we can start with the selfish position. When you are the patient, the healthcare issues should be all about you. As the patient, you are entitled to be the centre of attention. Except, of course, you should never allow this to go to your head. Physicians are entitled to a measure of respect. They do, after all, have the expertise to help you recover. So let’s go on with the idea that all treatment should be a partnership between you and the physician. They have the skills and there’s no need for you to continue suffering needlessly.

As a statement of the obvious, most people end up seeing their regular physician because they are in pain or they have symptoms as warning signs of pain to come. Fear is a great motivator even though, in these difficult economic times, it can be expensive to get advice and treatment. So the first potential problem is in yourself. When do you decide to make an appointment? Some people delay. This is understandable for economic reasons. When you do not have current health insurance or access to Medicaid, waiting until it’s an emergency has become a standard response. But when you are covered by a health plan, delay is less justifiable. Even though you may think it good to accept the pain, perhaps it’s a macho thing, the longer the delay, the more ill you may have become and so the more intensive the treatment you may require. Catching a problem early is always best. Suffering in silence simply makes you a victim of yourself. This also applies to people who believe they should not take any painkillers because of the risk of side effects. If you have fears, talk to your physician and ask for reassurance.

Even when you have taken the first step, you can be unlucky and run into a professional who’s not sympathetic to those in pain. Unless you address this problem, you can get second-best treatment. This requires you to be polite but firm. You have to work with doctors who are prepared to take pain seriously. If you have doubts this particular doctor is interested in pain management, negotiate to see another doctor – this may require you to get a reference from a primary care physician to someone better qualified. You must work within the terms of your health insurance. Ideally, you are looking for someone prepared to draw up a pain management plan. To prepare yourself, you should do some reading to identify the treatment options. As a first step, you will benefit if you keep a pain diary. Record when and how much it hurts. It’s too easy to gloss over details that may actually show a pattern to assist diagnosis and the selection of the best treatment.

In all this, remember drugs like Ultram or its generic tramadol have years of track record showing them both effective and safe. There’s no sense in denying yourself access to this drug in the short-term. Even if the pain management plan actually works through physical therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy so you no longer need to rely on painkillers all the time, Tramadol is the ideal fallback should pain flare up.

When it comes to buying insurance for one’s car many people tend to make a lot of mistakes that result in either higher rates or inadequate policies that don’t cover their needs properly. Of course, there’s nothing serious about it but do you really want to overpay for the stuff you don’t actually need? If not, there’s a great way to find adequate policies for a reasonable price even though it will take some time and effort from you. We’re talking about comparison shopping and there’s no way you can imagine it without using insurance quotes. But it’s the way you use those quotes that makes a difference!

What most people do with auto insurance quotes is they get one from a company they’ve heard of and simply buy the first policy they come across believing that all the other companies will charge the same. Well, that’s not true at all and buy avoiding quote comparison you simply give up your chance to save a lot of money on auto insurance. The point is that all companies have different ways for calculating their rates even though they use the same information you provide them with. Moreover, different companies specialize in insuring different types of clients and if you end up with a company that has a lot of drivers from the same group as you are your quotes will be much better. So, instead of buying the first thing that crosses your eyes make sure to get as many auto insurance quotes as possible to compare.

How you quote also matters, and that’s another moment where people make a lot of mistakes. Most people tend to enter different pieces of information every time they get quotes, changing the amount of coverage or adding things they didn’t add previously. That’s a huge mistake since it won’t reflect the actual difference between the pricing for the policy you actually won’t. Insurance companies have different different amounts of coverage a dollar in premiums can buy so keep this in mind when comparing auto insurance quotes. Instead, make sure to introduce exactly the same variables in all the quote forms across different companies. These have to be the exact figures that reflect your insurance needs and not an abstract assumption of what may be useful for your car. So you’ll have to sit down and analyze your needs beforehand. Only after that you will be able to have a precise picture of your policy and get the right quotes to compare.

And the last thing to keep an eye for is whether the company you’re quoting with is licensed to work in your state. It’s so easy to get auto insurance quotes online these days that many people start getting quotes from companies who don’ even work in their area. This may result in rather competitive offers that may look attractive but won’t be available for purchase. Even the biggest insurance companies don’t work in all states, so there are usually local companies that work in different areas. That’s why you need to focus only on those companies that are actually licensed to insure you in your state.

We often take good health for granted, that is until we lose it! It’s often only when something ails us that we are forced to consider good health, or the lack of it, with a bit more thought.

Good health, or wellness, is not just about an absence of illness or disease, rather it’s an overall feeling of well-being that’s made up of how we feel depending on what factors are impacting upon that feeling at any one point in our lives.

Now whilst we might not be able to control all of the factors that cause us to suffer dis-ease in our day to day lives there are a number of simple precautions that we as individuals should all take in order to minimize at least some of the risks that too many of us fail to recognize until it’s too late.

If you can follow the Five must do’s you’ll be well on your way to maintaining your good health.

Five good health must do’s are as follows;

· Stop Smoking

Smoking is the number one killer in western society today. It kills approximately 440,000 Americans every year, that’s 1,205 a DAY.

There’s a myriad of websites offering advice that are available to those still smoking and we should all be working towards a smoke-free environment for all if the good health of all of us, smokers and non-smokers, is to be protected

· Eat well and exercise

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, “poor diet and physical inactivity” are now causing 400,000 deaths a year in the United States.

A simple mixed diet including a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables a day has been proven to help us stay healthy. Fruit and vegetables taste delicious and there’s so much variety to choose from.

They’re a good source of vitamins and minerals, including folate, vitamin C and potassium.

They’re an excellent source of dietary fibre, which helps maintain a healthy gut and prevent constipation and other digestion problems. A diet high in fibre can also reduce your risk of bowel cancer.

They can help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and some cancers. Fruit and vegetables contribute to a healthy and balanced diet.

If you take even some light exercise daily, you’ll help your body maintain good health and lessen the risk of serious illnesses such as heart disease.

· Drink less alcohol

After smoking and poor eating and exercise habits, the next biggest self-inflicted killer we continually ignore is the excessive drinking of alcohol. A recent US Government study suggested that excessive alcohol consumption kills some 75,000 Americans each year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which published the study, estimated that 34,833 people in 2001 died from cirrhosis of the liver, cancer and other diseases linked to drinking too much beer, wine and spirits. Another 40,933 died from car crashes and other mishaps caused by excessive alcohol use.

We can enjoy a drink with no problems whatsoever providing we do it responsibly and we’re aware of the dangers of over indulgence. Indeed there is evidence to suggest that light or moderate alcohol intake can actually be beneficial to our health.

· Don’t get burned!

We all love the feeling of sunshine on our skin but beware, like many other things excess can be dangerous. Excessive exposure to strong sunlight can cause painful sunburn, sunstroke and may lead to more serious conditions such as skin cancers.

Always be aware of the UV index rating for your area and take appropriate precautions.

Proper use of sunscreens, appropriate clothing and sensible durations of exposure to the sun will allow all of us to enjoy the summer with none of the ill effects mentioned here.

· Be Happy!

Good health as I said at the beginning of this article is not just about avoiding or being aware of the physical dangers that are prevalent in our society; it’s as much dependent on our mood, our outlook as anything else.

Are you a glass half-full or glass half-empty sort of person?

If we approach life with a positive attitude and (despite what I’ve written about today), we don’t take ourselves too seriously, we can do wonders for our general feeling of well-being.

Sure, there’ll be good days and bad days, some will be infinitely better than others but if we pay heed to the information above and if we approach each day with a feeling of excitement and relish, we’ll be more than ready for life’s challenges and good health will stand it’s best chance of staying with us.

If you can follow all, or even most, of the five must do’s for good health, you’ll be doing yourself the biggest favor you could think of.

Best wishes,
